Robert Eddy Crawford, known affectionately by friends and family as Ed, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at Hospice House in Hughson, California. Born on May 29, 1937, in Ada, Oklahoma, Ed was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend whose loving presence will be deeply missed.
Ed grew up in the heart of California but he was born in Oklahoma to the late Leona and Herman Crawford. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Muratore. He was also the brother to Lindle Crawford and Mittie Bertalotto, who have predeceased him, leaving a legacy of family love and closeness that he would carry with him throughout his life. The joy of his life was his marriage to his beloved wife, Darlene Crawford. Together, they built a life filled with love and raised two children: Julie Rice and Eddora Phillips. Lisa Norris and Jason Crawford were raised by their loving mother in Oregon but often came to visit with their dad and extended California family.
After completing high school and furthering his education with some college, Ed embarked on a career that would span many years as a machine operator and supervisor, first at Simpson Paper Company and then at Fox River Paper Company. His diligent work and commitment to his role were evident to all who worked alongside him. Ed was more than just a colleague; he was a friend and a mentor, always ready with a word of encouragement or a thoughtful gesture.
Outside of work, Ed was a man of many interests. He had a passion for gardening, taking pride in his ability to cultivate a beautiful array of flowers and vegetables that would often become the centerpiece of family meals. A sports enthusiast through and through, Ed could often be found cheering for his favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the SF Giants. His love for softball extended beyond the role of a spectator, as he enjoyed playing the game and sharing this interest with his friends and family.
Ed was also known for his optimistic spirit and love of a good gamble, whether it was a friendly wager on a game or a trip to try his luck at the casino. However, the greatest joy in his life was the time he spent with his family. His family brought him immense happiness and he cherished every moment he shared with them.
Those who knew Ed would describe him as loving, thoughtful, and optimistic. He had a unique ability to see the good in every situation and to lift the spirits of those around him. His unwavering positivity and warm, generous nature made him a beacon of light in the lives of many.
Ed's legacy is one of love, kindness, and the importance of family. He leaves behind a family that includes his devoted wife, Darlene; his sister, Lynn; his children, Lisa, Jason, Julie, and Eddora; his grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Each of them will carry forward the lessons of compassion and joy that Ed instilled in them.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Robert Eddy Crawford will be held in the hearts of his family and friends forever as a man who made the world a kinder and brighter place. We honor his memory and celebrate the time we were privileged to share with him. Ed's story is not one of goodbye, but one of gratitude for the love and light he brought into our lives.
