Reverend Dr. Fletcher Reed Obituary

Reverend Dr. Fletcher Reed was born February 8th, 1944 to his parents Robert Reed Sr. and Leola Wiley Reed.

He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Palestine Missionary Church in McGhee, Arkansas.

He received his early education in McGhee and graduated from DeShay High School. Several years later he moved to California and joined the army and was deployed to Vietnam. He served honorably and was discharged in 1970.

He met and married Gwendolyn L. Coates his wife of 44 years in 1976. During their early years of marriage he was employed by IBM as a Technical Support Engineer. He later started his own business at A+ Laser Printer Services where he worked until his retirement in 2004.

In January 2005 he accepted his calling to preach the gospel and was mentored under Rev. Mark L. Dunham of Greater Zion M.B.E. Modesto, CA. He was ordained in 2009 and served as Pulpit coordinator at Greater Zion.

He attended Extension Theology College, Satellite Campus @God’s Throne Baptist Church in Stockton, Ca. Bible Based College in Stockton, CA and received a Doctorate of Divinity from St. John Seminary and Bible College in Modesto, CA in August 27th, 2011.

The Lord placed it on his heart to Pastor, and on October 14, 2012 he founded and Pastored the New Jerusalem M.B.C. of Turlock, CA. He later moved the church to it’s new home in Modesto, CA where he served as Servant Pastor for 7 years, until he retired due to health issues. But the Lord wasn’t ready for him to sit down and moved him to merge with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Modesto, CA where he was appointed Executive Pastor.

He served faithfully in several leadership roles in the church. He was a member of several organizations, including, the Modesto Clergy Council and the Mid Valley Association. A diligent worker in the community as well as the church visiting the sick, counseling and teaching. He was committed to saving lost souls.

A true man of God who fought the good fight and finished his course and departed this life and went home to be with the Lord, September 20th, 2020. He stayed a watchman on the wall and served well.

Reverend Dr. Fletcher Reed was preceded in death by his Parents; sons, Fletcher Reed Jr., Terrance Coates, sister, Frankie Starks, Brother’s Robert Reed, George Reed, Jimmy Reed, and Lester Reed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Gwendolyn, daughter’s Donna Taylor of Conway, Arkansas, Lisa Bomar (Aaron) of Los Angeles, CA  Shaunna Simon (Saddi) of Stockton, CA   Sons, Brian Reed, of Modesto, CA , Kevin Coates (Debra) of Oakland, CA Grandchildren, Feliece A.Reed, Terry Coates Jr., Devin Grant,  Kendall Carter, Kristen Carter, Aaron N.  Bomar, Briana Bomar, Chyna Coates, Michael Allen, Sazjon Simon, Sydney Smith, Ruby Smith,  Bria Reed, Janelle Reed, ,  7 great grandchildren.   Sisters, Annie Spencer, of Dallas, TX, Cherry Johnson, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Evelyn Mitchell (Archie) of Little Rock, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

His legacy of love will never be forgotten, he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
