MARGUERITE VARNESSA WISE
“VANESSA”
On August 7, 1958, Marguerite Varnessa Wise was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Sammy Lee Slay & Shirley Ann Wise Hardaway. She was the eldest sister of Paul Jones, Jr. who preceded her in death.
Marguerite was educated with the Oakland Unified School district where she attended Oakland Technical High School and graduated with the class of 1975. After graduation she went on to pursue her life passion of becoming a Nurse. After hard work and dedication, Marguerite obtained her nursing degree. She went into her career as a physical therapist, private care nurse, then later transitioned to a palliative care nurse. Marguerite retired after 40 years in the nursing field.
Marguerite was a connoisseur of music. She loved to listen and sing along to all genres especially her old school Motown classics. As certain as she was with all the lyrics, her pitch was quite questionable.
Marguerite enjoyed dancing along to her favorite tunes. She loved to read and keep up with current events. She also loved to travel with her sister-in-law, Betty Jones both domestically and internationally. They traveled to places such as Paris, Amsterdam, Italy just to name a few.
She also enjoyed her sports! On Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, you could find her glued to the couch watching her Bay Area football teams. Marguerite never missed a game. She dressed in her Raiders or Niners paraphernalia for every game. Not to mention, she also loved the Golden State Warriors and made sure to wear her good luck jersey every game.
The thing that really set her life ablaze was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephew. Marguerite adored her family so much. She was able to spend her last days with her close family and friends.
In loving memory, Marguerite leaves behind a legacy cherished by her children: Jockques Raymond Wise
of Senora, CA, Sherika Shunna Thompson of Houston, TX, and Myeasha Cavaness of Las Vegas, NV.
Her memory is further treasured by her grandchildren: Liza Nicole Carbone of Marysville, CA, TajDreana
Hurst Ogunsakin (Victor) of Houston, TX, Chyna Germany of New York, NY, and Zachery Stevens of
San Antonio, TX; as well as her great-grandchildren: Magnus Johnson, Kaleb Ogunsakin, and Lanii Scott.
She is fondly remembered by her nieces: Patricia McClain of Fresno, CA, LaToya Jones-Cravanas
(DeVon Sr.) of Fresno, CA, and Maria McClain of Janesville, WI, along with her nephew Jamie Pruitt
(Sally) of Redwood City, CA. Marguerite's memory lives on through her great nieces: Chanel Henry,
Aaliyah Henry, Jayla & Layla Cravanas, Taylor Pruitt, and great nephew DeVon Cravanas, Jr.
Marguerite's family circle extends to include her sister-in-law Betty Jones, Peregrine Thompson, and a
multitude of cherished relatives and friends, bound together by both blood and love.
