Lonnie Black III Obituary


Lonnie Black III was born in San Diego, CA on December 23, 1976 to the union of his parents Lonnie Black Jr. and Sandra Morris Black.

Lonnie confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Ervin Fleetwood at Corner Stone First Baptist Church in Oakland. Later in 1992 he united with House of Prayer church in Modesto under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Cobbs. He later joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Modesto under the leadership of Rev. Bernard Sutton, following God’s call he united with New Bethany Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Dr. Charles R. Evins II and finally With his wife and family at his side, Lonnie united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Peter J. Evins.

Lonnie attended schools in Oakland and Ceres and received his formal education from E. Morris Cox elementary, Elm Hurst Jr. High, Castlemont High and in 1995 he graduated from Ceres High School. He later went on to pursue a higher education and attended Modesto Junior College and Andon College where he studied to be a Physical Therapeutic Health Technician.

For several years Lonnie worked as a baggage handler at the Oakland airport and after finishing MJC he began working for Golden Bear as a physical therapy Technician.

Lonnie fathered his first child Ayanna Marae Black in 1996, later he met Jenny Larry and on New Year’s Eve 1998 along with several other couples he and Jenny were married by Rev. Ronald Dunham at Mt. Zion Baptist church. From their union five children were born, three daughters, Ajahnnae A. Black, Annijah A. Black, Alonnah A. Black and two sons, Lonnie Black IIII and Lucas Black.

Lonnie was a “Die Hard Daddy” to his children he was completely devoted and took EXCEPTIONAL care of them. Lonnie expressed his love outwardly so there was never a doubt that he truly loved his wife, his immediate and his extended family. A member of “African Brothers in America”, he was a kind and giving man who enjoyed cooking, swimming and spending time loving and caring for his family.

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, at the age of 43, Lonnie Black III heeded to the Lords call and with his angels surrounding him, he departed this life to be with his Savior. Lonnie was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Black Jr. his grandparents, Katie Ann Morris, Octavia Black and Lonnie Black Sr.

Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 21 years, Jenny Black of Modesto, his children, Ayanna Marae Black of Reno, NV, Ajahnnae A. Black, Annijah A. Black, Alonnah A. Black, Lonnie Black IIII and Lucas Black all of Modesto. His mother, Sandra Black of Ceres, sister, September Black of Ceres, brother, Victor (Giselle) Green of Washington DC, grandfather, Albert Nelson Sr. of South Carolina, play-grandmother, Beverly Jones of Modesto, niece, Brooke Green of Washing DC, nephew, Gavin Perry of Ceres, Uncles, Willis Black, Albert Nelson Jr., Neptune Nelson, Ernest Young, Walter Morris, aunts, Deloris Wright, Geraldine Brown, Cleaster Young. Mother-in-law, Martha Larry, brother in law, Christopher (Patricia) Larry, sister-in-law’s, Hazel (Odom) Dosom, Zenna Sutton, niece and nephew’s-in-laws, Mary, Zena, James, Adam, Paul, Eugene, Harmony. Godchildren, Gloria Stevenson, Nyema Grimes, Royal Grimes, Travyon James and a host of other loving family and friends, Lonnie will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
