Send Hugs for Julee Long
Julee Polk Long was born on December 17,1938, from the union of Robert James Polk and Althea Taylor Polk in Los Angeles, California. Because she was deeply loved and supported by her parents, Julee was able to experience a life many would envy. California was her lifetime home.
Julee was educated in Los Angeles. She loved to sing and belonged to the chorus while attending Mount Vernon Junior High School, graduated from Dorsey High School in 1957, and attended Los Angeles Community College. Julee worked for 25 years in dentistry as a dental assistant and office manager and eventually served as president of the National Dental Assistants Association.
Julee enjoyed social activities and entertaining friends and family. The legendary holiday dinners she hosted in her home brought her exceptional joy and made her guests feel as if they were at a fine-dining establishment.
Julee was a Grand Matron of the Queen Esther Grand Lodge in the Eastern Star Organization. She also served on the Mothers Board and as wedding coordinator for her beloved church, Bethel AME.
Above all, Julee loved to experience the world. Her travels included excursions to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe as well as various cruises, all from which she returned exhilarated and eager for more.
In her early years, Julee was happily married to Robert Long until his death. Later in life a relationship with her high school sweetheart, Leamon Adams, was rekindled. They enjoyed many happy years together until he preceded her in death.
In 2018, Julee’s health started to decline. As best she could, she continued to engage in the activities she enjoyed. After battling chronic illness for several years and staying committed to living life “on her terms,” Julee transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2020, at the age of 82.
Julee is survived by her cousins Linda M. Thomas, Patricia Albritton-Sackett, Nina Thomas, Alexandria Thomas-Hagler, Connie Turner, Janis Hayes, Karleen Woodson and Kermit Woodson; her goddaughter, Dr. Erica M. Royal; her stepdaughter, Dr. Va Lecia A. Kellum; and a host of family and friends.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no in-person memorial services have been scheduled.
