Joseph "Joe" Jones, a beacon of love and laughter, left this world on July 27, 2024, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 42. Joe's journey began on August 12, 1981, in Oakdale, Louisiana, as the firstborn child to Felecia Jones and the late Anthony Red. Joe's vivacious spirit and infectious humor were the heart of the Jones family, and his warmth radiated through every aspect of his life.
Joe was a beloved member of a large and close-knit family. He is survived by his devoted mother, Felecia Jones; his daughter, Heaven Jones; his brothers, Lawrence "Tumor" Jones and Kelston "Tweety Bird" Jones; his adoring nieces, Amaya "Big Henny" Jones and Peyton Jones; his affectionate nephew, Gabriel "Rooster" Jones; his caring uncles, John W. Jones and Timothy "Tim" Wade; his kind aunts, Cora A. Jones and Valerie Red; and a community of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Joe was preceded in death by his son, Anthony "AJ" Bouts, his father, Anthony Red, by his maternal grandparents, Joe and Laura Jones; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Red; his uncles, Raymond Jones Sr. (Godfather) and Lawrence (Tunt) Jones; and his aunts, Betty Joe Roberts, Lois Armstrong (Godmother), and Juanita Wade.
Joe's formative years were split between the familiar streets of Oakdale and the scenic landscapes of Lakewood, Colorado. Throughout his education at Oakdale Public Schools and Bear Creek High School, Joe's athletic talents shone brightly. His prowess on the basketball court and the football field earned his accolades, including selection to the All-State Boys Basketball Team and induction into the Hall of Fame at Bear Creek High School. A 2000 graduate, Joe left an indelible mark on the school's sports legacy, celebrated by the Denver Post and other media.
Known for his loving nature, Joe's passion for life was only matched by his dedication to his family and friends. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as the laughter at family gatherings and the shared stories during festive celebrations. Joe's absence will create a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Joe was many things to many people—loving, funny, passionate. These words only scratch the surface of a life lived with so much vigor and heart. He had a unique way of touching lives, leaving a lasting impression of kindness and joy. To quote the great Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Joe made everyone feel loved.
As we remember Joseph "Joe" Jones, we reflect on a life that, though too short, was lived to the fullest. He taught us to cherish every moment, to laugh often, and to love without reservation. His legacy is one of joy, love, and the power of family – a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Joe's story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life that, while he was with us, made the world a brighter, more beautiful place.
