Elvin Stevenson Obituary

Celebrating a life filled with joy and abundant love
Rev. Elvin Stevenson

Elvin Stevenson was born in Mobile, Alabama, on February 21, 1952, to the union of James Stevenson and Erlene Knight Stevenson. The youngest of six children, Elvin remained close to his family, especially his mother until her passing in 1972.
In 1954, James Stevenson Sr., a shipyard cook moved his family from Mobile, Alabama to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania finally settling in California in 1956. Elvin was born and raised in the church and accepted Christ at an early age at Emmanuel Baptist Church. During his formative years, his family attended two churches in Oakland, CA, both pastored by his uncles: Rev. Clarence Knight of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Rev. Edward Lee Knight, pastor of House of David
Church of God in Christ. Later in life, Elvin’s call to ministry was greatly influenced by the preaching and teachings of his uncles.
Elvin had a long and successful career as a Tour Bus Operator, safely transporting passengers through the National Parks of Nevada and California for over 40 years. While he excelled in his profession, his true passion was to advance the Kingdom of God. He felt honored to serve the Lord and answered his calling to the ministry while
a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Las Vegas, Nevada. In July 2003 he received his Certificate of Ordination.
In obedience to the word of God, Rev. Elvin Stevenson served on the ministerial staff at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church until he relocated to Modesto in 2015.
After moving, he and his family joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Fletcher Reed, where he was ordained Assistant Pastor. In 2019, following Rev. Reed's retirement, Rev. Stevenson and his family joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an Assistant Pastor under the
leadership of Rev. Dr. Peter J. Evins. Rev. Stevenson believed that his ministry began at home. He was a devoted husband who led his family with love and a passionate commitment to serving the Lord. He
often declared, "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15). Elvin valued love and always made it a point to express his affection openly to his family.
Rev. Stevenson is preceded in death by his parents, James Stevenson Sr., and Erlene Knight Stevenson, as well as his siblings: Joe Nathan Knight, William Stevenson, Johnny Lee Stevenson, Lonnie Stevenson and Julia Stevenson Washington.
He is survived by his beloved and cherished wife, Monique Stevenson, and his children: Sharell Dungeon, Elvin Stevenson Jr., Shawn Stevenson, Nicole Goodman, Antwan Stevenson, and Lonnettia Stevenson. He also leaves behind his stepchildren: Nicole Alberto, Michael Alberto, Ryan Alberto, Tori Alberto, and Isaiah Alberto.
Additionally, he is remembered by his brother, James Stevenson Jr., sisters Erlene Stevenson and Sareena Stevenson, along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
2 Timothy 4:7 reads: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”. On February 1, 2025, Rev. Elvin Stevenson transitioned from labor to reward. We take comfort in knowing that he is now resting safely in the arms of our Lord.
He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
