David Azcueta Obituary

David Contreras Azcueta, passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2020 in Modesto, California. He entered into eternal rest to be with his mother and father, Virginia and Peter Azcueta, at the age of 60. He was born on May 31, 1960 in San Jose, California and raised in Mountain View, California. He is survived by his life-long partner, Linda Moraida, mother of two adult children, David Anthony Azcueta and Miranda Azcueta. He is also survived by his older sister and brother, Priscilla Azcueta and Daniel Azcueta, and his younger sister, Tisha Bertlow.

Lovingly remembered as the Papa to his three grandsons, Manuel Elijah Castaneda, Edmund and Dominic Townsend, children of Miranda, he will be greatly missed. The boys were his pride and joy who he loved spending every moment whether playing ball, riding bicycles, rough-housing or kicking back. They shared special bonds that his grandsons will never forget.

A loving father and Papa, he was the uncle and Godfather to Cassandra Azcueta, uncle to Megan, Jacob and Joshua Bertlow, and great uncle to Carissa Azcueta. Family gatherings, celebrations, and watching the children participate in sports and cheerleading will forever be memories with David and the family. He cherished all of his relationships with immediate family, cousins, and beautiful friendships he built throughout his life.

When David was younger, the Azcueta family spent countless days enjoying the activities he participated in from Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion, Pop Warner football and high school sports. David was a born athlete with the ability to lead and a passion to be the best. As a sophomore, David proudly played defensive back on the MVHS Eagle Varsity football team that unexpectedly took the Central Coast Section Championship in 1975. He graduated from old MVHS in 1978. He went on to play sports in community college and adult leagues. Throughout his life, he reflected on those times, talked about the good ole days, made a point to stay in touch with his closest friends and tip a beer or two. He lovingly dubbed the friends he grew up with in MV and 35 years in the roofing industry as "Compas.” David was kind-hearted, helpful, loyal, strong-minded, hard-working and very funny. His time and labor were unselfishly given to anyone who reached out. He loved the SF Giants and SF 49ers and whenever he could pick up a live game, he went.

Upon his passing, he was surrounded by his immediate family, including Edmund Townsend II, partner to Miranda and Daphne Dizon, partner to David Anthony. David was a devoted family member.
