Luciano Perlas Obituary

Luciano "Sonny" Perlas passed away into God's embrace at his Patterson, California home on November 11, 2017 at the age of 70. Luciano is predeceased by his father Simon Perlas, mother Sofia Perlas, brother Ernesto Perlas, and sister Janette Maria Charles. He is survived by brother Simon Perlas, Jr. & sister Elizabeth Perlas Parscale. In addition to his spouse, Marietta Velo, Sonny/Grandpa Lou is lovingly remembered by his daughter Marlo & husband Christopher, son Joel & wife Sylvia and beloved grandchildren: Natalie, Adelyn and Calin. Affectionally endeared by brother-in-law Larry, nephew Mark & wife Cristal, nephew Justin, sister-in-law Zeny, niece Caroline & husband Michael, niece CaraMia & husband Nick, brother-in-law Jeffrey, niece Jasmin & husband Jose, niece Janelle, nephew Miles, nephew Joshua and all of his grand-nieces. Luciano was born in Makati, Philippines in 1947. After graduating from Arrellano High School and studying at Mapua University, he enlisted with the United States Navy at U.S. Naval Station Sangley Point and began his journey to the mainland eventually leading to his first duty station at U.S. Naval Academy Annapolis where he met his wife, Marietta, and started a family. Ultimately, he was assigned to the nation's west coast where he spent the bulk of his career including time aboard USS Enterprise and numerous other deployments, and later in assignments at Moffett Field, Alameda and Treasure Island as a Master at Arms. After attaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, Luciano retired in the late 1980's. Committed to civil service, he proceeded to complete Police Academy training at Ohlone College and embarked on a second career from which he retired as a Captain-equivalent United States Air Force civilian helping to keep safe and secure Onizuka Air Force Base. Luciano enjoyed deep sea and lake fishing as well as watching action movies, working on his cars and rooting on his favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers. Most of all, he cherished time with his family. Family and friends are invited to a viewing at 11:00 am in Saint Bruno's Catholic Church 555 West San Bruno Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066. Funeral Mass will be held immediately after at 12:00 pm with Father Michael presiding. Internment with Full Military Honors to follow at 2:00 pm at Golden Gate National Cemetery 1300 Sneath Lane San Bruno, CA 94066.
